Capabilities

Software, AI, and data, applied to healthcare problems.

Three disciplines that Avicen designs as one architecture. Most healthcare problems need more than one, and we recommend only what the problem calls for.

01

Software

Purpose-built applications for work that off-the-shelf tools don’t cover.

Internal platforms, portals, workflow systems, and the integrations that connect them to the systems you already run.

Problems it addresses

  • A workflow that lives in spreadsheets, email, and memory
  • A legacy internal system that everyone depends on and no one wants to touch
  • Off-the-shelf software that almost fits, forcing workarounds

What we build

  • Custom web applications
  • Internal platforms and employee tools
  • Customer and patient portals
  • APIs and system integrations
  • Legacy system modernization

How we approach it

We start from the workflow, not the screen. The design is built around how work moves between people and systems, and it is delivered in increments so it is in front of real users early.

Where it meets the others

Software is usually where data and AI become usable: the queue, the portal, the dashboard, the tool a staff member actually opens.

02

Artificial intelligence

AI applied where it is the right tool, and only there.

Document processing, retrieval, and decision support built around a real operational problem, with people kept in the loop. If conventional software solves it better, that is what we recommend.

Problems it addresses

  • Large volumes of unstructured documents that people read and re-key by hand
  • Information that exists but cannot be found when it is needed
  • Repetitive judgment-light steps that consume skilled staff time

What we build

  • Document processing
  • Information retrieval
  • LLM-powered internal tools
  • Intelligent automation
  • Predictive and decision-support systems

How we approach it

We define the task, decide how success will be measured on your own data, and keep a person responsible for consequential decisions. Where a rule, a query, or a better form does the job, we say so.

Where it meets the others

AI works best on structured data and inside a defined workflow. Without those it tends to stay a prototype, which is why we design it alongside the other two.

03

Data

Data that can be trusted, moved, and used.

Architecture and engineering that gets data out of silos and into a form your organization can report on, act on, and build on.

Problems it addresses

  • The same figure means different things in different systems
  • Reporting that depends on a monthly manual export and clean-up
  • Systems that cannot exchange data without human intervention

What we build

  • Data architecture and engineering
  • Pipelines and integration
  • Data platforms and infrastructure
  • Analytics and reporting
  • Dashboards and business intelligence

How we approach it

We map where data originates, how it moves, and who relies on it, then design the model, the pipelines, and the access rules together, so what comes out can be trusted.

Where it meets the others

Data is the foundation the other two build on. Software needs a reliable record, and AI needs clean, well-understood inputs.

04 · Judgment

Choosing the right tool.

Avicen is not an AI agency. AI is one tool among several, and part of the work is knowing when it is not the answer.

A rule, a form, or a better query
The logic is known and the task is well defined. Conventional software is cheaper, easier to audit, and more reliable than a model, so that is what we recommend.
Data engineering first
The real problem is inconsistent, siloed, or late data. No application or model fixes that until the data underneath it is addressed.
Custom software
The problem is a workflow: handoffs, approvals, tracking, and the tools people use to do the work. We build around the process as it actually runs.
Applied AI
The input is unstructured, such as documents, free text, or images, or the task needs judgment at a scale rules cannot express, and a person can review the output.
Not building anything
Sometimes the answer is to configure a tool you already own, or change the process. We would rather tell you that than sell a project.

Most real problems need more than one.

  1. 01 · Input

Referrals arrive as faxes, PDFs, and emails.

  2. 02 · AI

Reads each document and extracts the fields, flagging anything uncertain for review.

  3. 03 · Data

Validates and structures the fields into one consistent, queryable record.

  4. 04 · Software

A staff work queue routes, tracks, and closes each referral.
